HIT Energy Services Winter 2024 Newsletter

DECEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND THANKS FOR BEING PART OF A SOLAR-POWERED 2024

It has been a massive year for the industry, which has really set the tone for an incredibly exciting future for solar.
A new government came into power that seems intent on leading a renewables revolution, while some of the exciting developments include the possible use of drones in the sector.

Here’s a look back at 2024 as we wish all our customers, clients and friends a very merry Christmas.

February - the changing face of solar

We pride ourselves on being a UK-wide company, but at the same time are extremely proud of where we come from.
So it is always nice to get out and meet customers and friends in our local area.
We started the year at the Lincolnshire Farming Conference, which really shed a light on how agriculture (our core customer area) is changing.

The theme in 2024 was biodiversity and carbon – these were two words that would have been alien to many in the sector a decade or so ago, yet are now a constant source of conversation and debate for some.

It was great chatting about how important solar now is to the industry’s future.

July - start of a solar revolution?

You never know how new governments will view solar, but since Labour came to power in the general election, they have put climate change, energy bills and renewables at the forefront of many of their new policy ideas.

One of the most exciting is their call for a “rooftop revolution” – putting solar panels on thousands of homes they plan to build in the coming years to help owners bring down their energy bills.

But this just seems to be the start – three huge solar farms relatively close to HIT Energy Services’ base were quickly approved, and they also announced the establishment of GB Energy.

At its heart is the aim of giving everyone cheaper bills, with companies such as HIT Energy Services working closely with government bodies to deliver this.

August - can drones scare off thieves?

We always refer to Solar PV as “the most valuable asset” of many farmers, landowners and businesses.
Of course, we are referring to the huge financial outlay that they have made for their site to be built, and the potential energy it produces for them.
Sadly, it also has huge value to unscrupulous thieves who see Solar PV systems, often in isolated locations and in fields, as easy targets for thefts.
More than 100,000km of copper cabling has been stolen in recent times, and the cost to businesses of these incidents can run into six figure amounts.

We have started looking into a new secret weapon in the fight against thieves – drones.
Amazon is looking into using them to deliver parcels, and we think they could monitor sites, notify the police of any suspicious activities, and even talk to would-be thieves to scare them off.
This is something we are looking to develop, so watch this space in 2025.

September - giving solar the power back

Throughout the summer months, we were extremely busy repowering sites all around the UK.
In total, we have rewired and repowered sites totalling 35MW this year.
Our pioneering solar monitoring technology the HIT Energy Guard continues to help us to find the sites underperforming, enabling us to give them a new lease of life through new panels and rewiring.

But we still think there are thousands of Solar PV systems around the UK which are not working as effectively as they once were and could benefit from our oversight.
Issues could be costing you hundreds or even thousands in lost generation – so get in touch if you are interested in a Solar PV health check and repowering for your site.

November - Midlands Machinery Show

This is another great local show in Newark, which is one of the premier events to showcase new products, industry innovations and the latest technology that can help farmers, machinery operators, landowners and agricultural contractors.

We met so many farmers from right around the country, and it was a great chance to chat to existing customers and meet new ones.

December - a bright solar-powered future?

The end of the year is not just about celebrating what we have achieved as a company, but also the amazing contribution of our apprentices.

Kieran has made a great start after changing career from being a labourer, and is in the first year of his apprenticeship.
George is also doing really well and is into his third year, while Oscar and Lewie will be completing theirs in early 2025.
We are all excited to see them all grow as solar engineers as our business continues to expand.

Another newish member of staff we would like to mention is Danielle, you’ve probably spoken to her on the phone but not been properly introduced.
Danielle joined HIT in June 2024 as a finance support officer, she mostly works remote from home.
Her work background is in accounting/ book-keeping, perfect for this job, in her spare time she likes to travel and make memories with her husband and 3 daughters.

Welcome Danielle.

Our business and reach continue to grow, as does our work on innovating with new technology.
As always, our main aim remains making solar a reliable form of energy for everyone.
Without our loyal customer base, clients and partner firms sharing our vision, this would not be possible.
We currently monitor 185 Solar PV sites around the UK, while our solar farm contracting arm continues to help with operations and maintenance at companies nationwide.

As individuals, we love what we do, and have taken new offices and stores to see our reach grow even more in 2025.
The new year will see more investment into apprenticeships for young and up-and-coming school leavers, while our current apprentices turn into qualified engineers.

Have an amazing Christmas and New year, and we look forward to helping the solar world shine even brighter in 2025.

Simon and the team.

St Barnabas Logo

We usually send Christmas cards to all our customers, this year we have decided to use these funds to donate to a local charity. A charity that is close to our hearts is St Barnabas Hospice that looked after our former employee and Simon’s Mum in her final days.

In 2025 our family are planning another bike ride (Mum loved time on her bike) with Simon and Becki’s little family and our work family at HIT.

Merry Christmas to all our family of customers and looking forward to keeping you solar powered in 2025!
