A new drive towards solar PV

A change of government seems to have given the solar industry a real boost – and now could be the best time ever for everyone to start investing in renewable energy.

From businesses to homeowners, councils, charities, universities and social landlords, anyone who uses power can benefit.

What is behind this new buzz around solar energy?

Since Labour and its leader Keir Starmer swept  to power in the general election, climate change, energy bills and renewables have been at the forefront of much of their new policy ideas.

One of the most exciting is their call for a “rooftop revolution” – putting solar panels on millions of homes to help owners bring down their energy bills.

But that’s just the start – new energy secretary Ed Miliband didn’t waste any time in quickly approving three huge schemes the Tories had blocked, all relatively close to HIT Energy Services’ headquarters.

These are Gate Burton in Lincolnshire, Sunnica’s energy farm on the county border between Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, and Mallard Pass, which is also on the edge of Lincolnshire.

Why are Labour so keen on Solar?

A name  you may have heard through the election campaign was a new publicly-owned energy company called GB Energy.

At its heart is the aim of giving everyone cheaper bills, with companies such as HIT Energy Services working closely with government bodies to deliver this.

Part of the plan could totally change how solar panels are used.

In the past, they’ve been something homeowners have chosen to add on to their property themselves, and before companies such as HIT Energy Services emerged, they often found it hard to do so.

But the government wants them to be a staple of new-build properties.

Regulations could be loosened to make it far easier for anyone to have them on their home, business property or land.

The possibility of solar panels on listed buildings and in conservation areas could also be re-examined.

What have Labour promised on solar?

Miliband has promised to triple the amount of solar power in the UK by 2030.

This is quite an undertaking and will include what he calls a rooftop revolution, a win-win situation where people can have lower bills by creating their own electricity, and fight climate change.

The government believes around 100,000 homes could benefit over the next 60 years.

Experts believe improvements to the National Grid as well as more solar farms is how we make sure everyone has power long into the future, with demand continuing to rise.

How can HIT Energy Services help?

We know the industry like nobody else and we have been installing fibre optic networks, low voltage (LV) and DC systems to install solar farms for many years.

Once a solar PV installation has been installed it’s vital the system is monitored to ensure the best possible output and engineers to respond to any issues that would result in any loss generation.

Our award winning solar PV monitoring platform ensures all systems perform to best of abilities and alerts our monitoring team should an issue occur with our engineers responding to place systems back on track.
